Kunshan, June 15, 2015–Duke Kunshan University (DKU), a Sino-American partnership of Duke University and Wuhan University, has appointed two senior leaders to lead the university’s undergraduate programs and the Library.

Andrew Field, Ph.D., a scholar on Chinese, East Asian and world history, will serve as the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs at DKU. Hong Xu, Ph.D., currently Associate Librarian at City University of Hong Kong Library, will serve as the DKU University Librarian and the Associate University Librarian for DKU Library Services at Duke University.

Dr. Field has spent much of his career living, teaching, researching, and working in the Asia Pacific region, including Mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and Australia. He is fluent in both Mandarin Chinese and Japanese and holds a Ph.D. in East Asian Languages and Cultures from Columbia University (2001). He has taught courses in Chinese, East Asian, and World History for many institutions including the University of Puget Sound, the University of New South Wales, Dartmouth College, New York University, Yonsei University, and Boston University. Prior to taking on the role of Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs for DKU, he also served various roles directing and managing academic programs in China for Dartmouth College, CIEE, Boston University, and the Hult International Business School.

As the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs, Dr. Field will oversee the university's undergraduate global learning semester program and assist in the development of the undergraduate degree program. An author of three books, he will continue to teach and write about history and culture. He will start his position July 1st .

Dr. Xu is the Associate Librarian at City University of Hong Kong Library, and before her current position, she was the Head of the East Asian Library at the University of Pittsburgh. She earned her Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has taught in both China and the United States. Dr. Xu's research interests cover scholarly communication, user study, bibliometrics, and library management. She serves on the editorial board of several academic journals and has edited a number of books and published numerous research papers/chapters in journals and books.

As the DKU University Librarian, Dr. Xu will be responsible for managing all aspects of DKU University Library's operations in concert with Duke University Libraries (DUL) strategies and policies. She will be on board July 23rd .
